Seattle Phobia Treatment

Do you go to great lengths to avoid having to deal with a specific, unrealistic fear?  For some, this symptom occurs with the presence of a phobia.

Phobia Treatment:

Phobias are persistent, unrealistically strong fears to certain objects or situations (feared stimulus) that pose little or no danger.  Being exposed to these feared objects or situations cause the individual to undergo a strong, immediate reaction of intense anxiety symptoms.  Most sufferers of phobias avoid the feared stimulus, but this avoidance can greatly interfere with the individual’s daily life.  In addition, this avoidance increases the fear response over time as the individual becomes less and less accustomed to contending with his/her fears.  Notably, individuals with phobias are generally very aware that their fear is unrealistically intense, but can find addressing their phobia to be very challenging.

When presented with feared stimulus, symptoms of anxiety often include, but are not limited to:

  1. -Panic attacks

  2. -Pounding heart

  3. -Nausea or diarrhea

  4. -Shaking

  5. -Numbness or tingling

  6. -Sweating

  7. -Trembling or shaking

  8. -Difficulty breathing

  9. -Feeling lightheaded or dizzy

  10. -Sensations of choking
