Seattle Major Depression Treatment
Are you feeling hopeless, extremely sad, and overwhelmed? For some, these symptoms occur with the presence of major depression.
Major Depression (MDD) Treatment
Major depressive disorder (also known as “clinical depression”, “unipolar depression”, or “major depression”), refers the presentation of an extreme depressed mood. This is considered “one pole” as only the depression mood is present. This is in contrast to the two poles of depression and mania (high moods/euphoria) seen with bipolar disorder. All sufferers of major depression are effected in many different ways. Common symptoms include insomnia, hypersomnia, weight loss, weight gain, and feeling agitated, irritable, or fatigued.
Others, are able to continue functioning in the workplace with a “happy face” while suffering quietly with a tiredness and disinterest in life. The loss of interest in things that used to be enjoyable is referred to as anhedonia. Other symptoms of major depression include difficulties with concentration, memory, headaches, and body aches. In addition, major depression usually accompanies feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, and thoughts of suicide.
Major depressive disorder affects twice as many women as men. It is most common for both genders for individual between the age of 25 and 44. Approximately 5-12% of men, and 10-25% of women are affected by major depression during the lifespan. Major depressive disorder must always be taken very seriously, as up to 15% of individuals suffering from this die from suicide.
